A Pacific New Year

.

A few more Monterey photos from this week to usher in the New Year.

It's not widely known that they let riff-raff like us walk the famous golf course at Pebble Beach, as long as you behave yourself. I have no interest in golf, but the views of the Pacific from here are legendary. There's even a wonderfully quiet anchorage you can sail into - Stillwater Cove - although it is open to the swells at this time of year and is best done in summer months.

A tranquil and pacific New Year to all, from O Dock.

  1. Soc. Lead on, and look out for a place in which we can sit down.

Phaedr. Do you see the tallest plane-tree in the distance?

    Soc. Yes.

Phaedr. There are shade and gentle breezes, and grass on which we may either sit or lie down.

    Soc. Move forward.

    Just a thought.

  2. Carol Anne, I don't know who this Soc guy is, but I think he's telling me to move forward and quit posting these boring photos.

If he moves on to those mountains in the distance, he may find, among the plane trees, some tasty hemlock to chew on.

  5. Darn, knew we should have gotten out of the car more when we took the driving tour between Monterey and Carmel.

  6. The cool part is that if you're on foot, you don't have to pay to enter 17-mile drive. The path leading to the golf course is protected by a very angry looking sign that says:

    ------------------

    NO GOLF COURSE ACCESS

    Pedestrians, bicyclists,
    members of lower
    social strata prohibited

    ------------------

OK, I made part of that up. You can probably figure out which part.

  7. Hmmm, the sign doesn't specifically exclude skateboarders. Possible loophole?
